Why am I a Ho and You’re a Player?

Well, I’ve come across just another example of the disparity in the treatment of males and females in this world. The following comes from Leora Tanenbaum’s book, Slut! Growing Up Female With a Bad Reputation. The words written in bold are terms that I have added.

Positive Expressions For a Sexually Active Man

  • stud
  • player
  • stallion
  • ladies’ man
  • the man
  • Romeo
  • Don Juan
  • Casanova
  • bounder
  • gigolo
  • lover
  • lover man/boy
  • pimp (this term is negative in my opinion, but with the present “pimp” fad I thought it would be appropriate to include it here)
  • catdaddy (I just heard this one on the Wendy Williams Experience. She referred to Lionel Ritchie as a catdaddy)

Positive Expressions For a Sexually Active Woman

  • hot
  • sexy

Negative Expressions For a Sexually Active Man

  • womanizer
  • wolf
  • dog
  • “can’t keep it in his pants”
  • philanderer

Negative Expressions For a Sexually Active Woman

  • slut
  • whore
  • tramp
  • ho
  • bitch
  • hoochie mama
  • pig
  • prostitute
  • hood rat
  • hooker
  • nympho
  • harlot
  • hussy
  • tart
  • bimbo
  • floozy
  • cunt
  • vixen
  • minx
  • loose woman
  • fallen woman
  • naughty girl/woman
  • vamp
  • wench
  • slattern
  • Jezebel
  • strumpet
  • skank
  • sleaze
  • slag
  • sexpot

Why do we feel the need to police women’s sexuality and assign degrading terms to sexually active women. God forbid a woman acts as if she enjoys sex, because then she is often looked upon with suspicion by her lover. We’re not non-sexual beings. Can we stop rewarding men for their sexual behavior while at the same time punishing women for theirs?

It’s true that women/girls have more derogatory terms than men and some words that apply to women have don’t have befitting equivalents for men and vice versa. The unfortunate generational gender ideas that we continue to live with… :-(

and isn’t is something that the derogatory terms for women are a lot more harsh?!

Because woman control the sex in this world my darling =) unless you’re a fag of course. Woman decide if we get to have sex or not, you are in control when it comes to sex, men are not. That is why a woman is considered a slut, and a man is considered a player.

Just because most women wont have sex at the drop of a hat, doesnt mean we control the sex supply…it means we have better control over our sexual organ…girls get the same urges as guys…we have just been taught that we need to wait til marriage…and not sleep with every guy that comes begging for it. I have actually seen guys reduce themselves to begging…is that not the saddest thing in the world? gain control over that thing in ur pants, grow up, and quit whining. sex is intimate…and should therefore be equally enjoyed…

    @ Tyler
If you believe that women control the sex in this world, you are not living in the same world as me and billions of other women. If women were in control, then 1 in 6 American women would not be victims of sexual assault. Do you say women control the sex in this world because when we say NO a man is supposed to stop? And furthermore, let’s just say that women are in control; what does that have to do with the derogatory terms we use to describe women if they are sexually active?

    dara,

if you think about it…some of the women that have been sexually assaulted may end up saying no to more guys because of the fear created by the act…so guys are just screwin it up for themselves even more

    Rape is not about sex.

This is just my opinion. i feel that women have more negative expressions describing them because of how certain women see other women. Some women down others for things that they do in their sexual life and admit to without worrying about how people will see them, when the same women downing her is doing the same things just afraid to talk about it and acts like she doesn’t feel the same way or acts better then the other. I feel and know that there are women out there that enjoy sex just as much and if not more then men. But when a man does it his friends or boys call him a player or a PIMP. But if a girl does it then other females say, well she is a hoe or a slut. Not all females but a lot(especially in my age group). Not saying that its right, but every girl i know, coming up in my generation anyway, that is single and just dating i hear other females talking bad about them just because they are not tied down by one specific person.

    just an opinion
