Can you see that tooth? I was so excited when I first noticed it one day when she laughed. It’s so tiny and cute. But that little sucker is dangerous! Baby 2.0 bit me for the first time a week ago. In the past she’s clamped down, but gums don’t compare to teeth. When it happened I let out an “Ouch!” and she just laughed. Can any breastfeeding moms (or former breastfeeding mothers) give me advice on how to discourage her from using me as a teething ring when she nurses? Or do i just have to

Lol. Yeah, that is a bit of a problem.
Buchela still breast feeds and has many many teeth. He hasn’t bitten me since the first set of teeth came in. When he bit me at the time, I said ouch loudly and showed my displeasure. A few times of this and he stopped doing it.
I guess he decided it wasn’t worth losing the boob over.
You absolutely *should* not bear it. It’s not as cute and hurts a lot more with a mouthful of teeth (if you plan on extended breastfeeding, that is).
Interrupt the nursing session when you get bitten. How I interrupted it was very much in relation to how hard my boy bit - a little nibble and giggle got a frown, pop off, and told “no biting, you know that”. A harder bite and I turned on The Drama - put him down hard, put the boob away, and “cried” because it hurt.
You also need to determine if the bite is a deliberate thing, or if it’s just Nia getting used to having teeth in her mouth.
Emily’s last blog post..This just in: Kernersville gets featured in Southern Living Magazine
@DEMBuchela
so far, she’s only laughed when i said Ouch! will have to find some way to let her know it’s not a game
@Emily
thanks for the tips. i *do* think she’s been “testing” out her new tooth, but i will try some of these if she bites me again.
so you’re in Kernersville?
ohhhhh, how i remember that. there’s a lot of bearing it involved, but you’ve got to let your baby know that she’s hurting you. my son had four teeth at four months, six teeth at six months… you see where i’m going with this?? hahaha… and i nursed for a year!! so i definitely feel your pain. he didn’t always bite, but whoa when he did… not exactly a party going on.
mama’s got moxie’s last blog post..sorry to rain on your parade?
