We had a ball this past weekend! This year our city turns 200-years-old. On Saturday we enjoyed some of the bicentennial festivities, like the parade and downtown birthday bash.
Afterwards (yes, we were trying to wear the kids out), we went strawberry picking at a local farm. Locally grown, pesticide-free, juicy, sweet strawberries…yum!
Fact: 1-year-olds think slightly mud-covered strawberries with bits of leaves are just as delicious as washed strawberries. I tried to keep Nia from eating the strawberries before we had washed them, but my attempts were futile…she managed to gobble up 3 during our picking.

Our daughter would have been killing those strawberries and if you tried to stop her it would have been followed by a fallout in the middle of the patch.

Oh it looks as though she had a lot of fun. I made a strawberry patch in our garden. My daughter picks strawberries during the harvest season. I love it; I don’t have to buy them from the store. We leave some for the birds and turtles.

You’ve encouraged me to go strawberry picking myself. I’ve always wanted to do it. So I found a farm, now I just have to wait for the berries to ripen. Hopefully baby will allow me to eat strawberries and I hope to one day be like you and make it a family affair.

@Opal — how easy/difficult is it to plant a strawberry patch in your garden? i’m only working with a small patch of land (i live in an apartment) so i don’t know if i could do it.

The good thing is they keep returning each year. We planted a new batch last year, and they are producing more fruit this year.
If you have adequate sunlight, you’re golden those things (seemingly) grow like weeds. They have the tendency to take over also, I’m always cutting them back.
I think I’ll write a post about strawberry planting this weekend. I need to write it down otherwise I’ll forget.

i didn’t know i was having a girl until she she was born. everyone convinced me i was having a *boy* because i was “carrying low.” well, when she came out and i saw all of that hair! i thought, lord what am i going to do with all that?!!! She won’t sit still long enough for me to braid it, so we settle for poofs. LOL!
I followed over from Opal Tribble’s blog and I’m so glad I did. That middle photo where she’s looking up while holding the basket is just the most precious thing I’ve seen all day!
