    Cutie-pie kid!

I’m a fellow blogger from Greensboro and I have a quick question. I was reading one of your posts from 2006 where you discussed Ethiopian food and, more specifically, injera.

I recently went to the Ethiopian restaurant in Raleigh, Abyssinia, and absolutely loved it. I had planned on trying to make my own injera until I read about how difficult it can be. Instead I figured I would just try and find a local market that sells it, but I haven’t been able to find anything - that is until I came upon your old post.

Would you be so kind as to let me know what local market in Greensboro sells injera? I am craving it since going to Raleigh last weekend and I don’t want to have to drive back! If you comment here or at my blog I would greatly appreciate it. Blessings to you and yours. TripJax (Jason)

    Hi Jason,

So another person’s been captivated by good ol’ Ethiopian food :)
You can pick up injera at the Al Iman market on 4518 West Market Street. They sell packs of 8 large pieces for $5, although I think they price has gone up slightly.

Let me know how it goes!

    Dara,

It was very kind of you to reply to my inquiry.

I went to Al Iman on Thursday. I searched the little store for about 5 minutes before I finally realized I just needed to ask the lady at the counter. As a side note, there was a lady - obviously the grandmother - who was just sitting there watching me peruse the aisles (as well as watching the tv). It was quite interesting.

Like I said, I eventually made my way to the counter and asked if they had any injera. She said yes and headed in the back room. Wow…it’s not even listed…it’s in the back room! When we got to the counter I asked if she took credit or debit. I originally planned on bringing cash, but forgot to hit the ATM. She shrugged and said normally they don’t do cards for that small amount.

At that point I told her I would just come back later if she would hold it for me. She then said, “I trust you…you take it and then come back another time and pay me.” How cool was that? I knew if I didn’t go get the money then, I would forget, so I immediately went and paid. It was the least I could do for her kindness.

Oh, and on top of that, she spent at least 5 minutes telling me how to cook many of the stews for the meals. Top notch stuff.

    I really appreciate your help.

I may have to have some discussions with you about the ethiopian food that you prepare for your injera. I’m slightly intimidated about it all. I have to admit that I couldn’t get enough ingredients together last night, so I ended up using 3 or 4 different Indian dishes that I already had available. It worked well as they have a similar consistency and spice flavor. It soaked up well and left me smiling, but I felt bad that I didn’t stick to the Ethiopian spirit of it all.

Anyway, I’m rambling and this could have been an entire post on my site, but again, thank you for helping me. I was running out of hope and you put a smile on my face.

    Toodles,

    Jason

Jason, I hope you were able to make a stew to go with your injera:)
