Fall of 1997…homecoming…my brother escorted me ![]()
I didn’t attend my junior or senior prom. This is the closest I came to wearing those icky dresses I used to despise.
I don’t know what was going on with my head…I still had relaxed hair fighting with natural hair!

Biting, biting, biting. All three incident reports Nia racked up in the span of 1 week! I know this is the age they love to sink their teeth into juicy flesh, whether just for kicks (Nia laughs when she tries to bite me and I discipline her with a stern “No!”; or to defend their favorite toy. When I dropped her off one day last week, I walked in just as one of her classmates clamped down on another kid’s arm. How do you deter the biting? Do I just have to wait for her to gradually grow out of it? Was/Is your child a biter?
I found out about Top Momma through Mommy over at Mommy Daddy Blog. I submitted my blog to the site and then completely forgot about it. Then today I get an email saying I made it to the front page…I’m a new contender. So now the question is how long will I last? Well, if you vote for me (the black baby with the afro puffs stuffing cake in her mouth) I just might make it to the Top Momma hall of fame!
Another birthday has come and gone and I’m practically on 30’s doorstep. Highlights of the day:
Lunch with some of my work peeps.
A funky Bob Marley shirt my mom bought me.
A much needed GAS CARD!!!!
…still getting better with age…30, I’m (almost) ready for ya!
I had planned to write this post on Memorial Day, or at least the day after but it took me two days to recover from our trip to the zoo. Let me tell you, if you want to get a weeks worth of exercise in one day, visit the N.C. Zoo! At the entrance we were handed brochure guides and the first thing i noticed — 5 MILES of walking trails! Whew! glad I had my sneakers on…yes I saw a woman wearing heels, now what was she thinking?!!
I hadn’t visited the zoo in a looooong time. I was never really fond of it as a kid, the memories etched in my mind are of the caged animals, stinking smells, the heat, and being daggone tired from so much walking. Well…this time it was stinking, hot, and exhausting. So not too much different. BUT despite how much it seems I’m complaining, I actually had a good time. I think being with the kids and seeing how much fun they were having, made the trip so much more enjoyable for me. My niece (to the right, rear) was not satisfied until she saw Simba (the lions), Timon (the meerkats), and Pumba (a warthog…we had to settle for the Red River Hogs). My cousin’s son came prepared wearing his Curious George shirt
.
My favorite exhibits:
And these baboons were engaged in some questionable activity. I’ll let you use your imagination, I’ll just say that one in front was bobbing it’s head up and down.
