It’s going down tomorrow Thursday night in Greensboro:

We had a ball this past weekend! This year our city turns 200-years-old. On Saturday we enjoyed some of the bicentennial festivities, like the parade and downtown birthday bash.
Afterwards (yes, we were trying to wear the kids out), we went strawberry picking at a local farm. Locally grown, pesticide-free, juicy, sweet strawberries…yum!
Fact: 1-year-olds think slightly mud-covered strawberries with bits of leaves are just as delicious as washed strawberries. I tried to keep Nia from eating the strawberries before we had washed them, but my attempts were futile…she managed to gobble up 3 during our picking.
Admittedly, I hate politics. I’ve always felt politicians were legal con artists. Smooth talkers who spit the right game to get what they want. I’m hoping Obama is different. I feel that Obama is different. And history says my gut feelings are usually correct.
Last week, I had the pleasure of being in the same room with this man (albeit a very large room and I was lucky to catch glimpses of him through the photogs legs who were on elevated risers in front of me). But I was there. I saw him. I heard him. And I can tell you, Obama has a presence that automatically uplifts you when he walks in the room. Charisma and humor oozes from this man. He was comfortable on stage, and it was evident to everyone in that room (I’m sure of it). Either he’s the real thing…or he’s a damn good actor. Again, my instinct tells me the former is true. When Obama speaks, it feels as if a common, (extra)ordinary man is speaking…not a politician. Continue reading ‘Obama: Change We Can Believe In?’
This was such an enjoyable week for me! I learned Monday evening that Barack Obama would make a stop in Greensboro, N.C. to hold a town-hall meeting. I was bummed to find out work would prevent me from attending. Then…
I was asked to live blog the event for the tv station. Whoopee!!!!!!!!!! Now the title of this post is a tad misleading because I was in the building, but not “up close.” In reality, I was more like waaaaaayyy back. I sat in the press section (a first for me) but I couldn’t see a thing! They had us behind the risers so all I could see was the backsides of cameramen. But a photojournalist with our station had an excellent spot and captured these amazing photos of Obama.
I have more to share on the Obama experience. Stay tuned for the next post…
I am ecstatic right now. Yesterday I learned Barack Obama would be holding a town hall meeting here in Greensboro, NC. In fact, he’ll be here tomorrow! Tickets sold out in a few hours yesterday! And even if I were lucky enough to snag one, I have to work so…
But I’m not upset. No, not at all. Because I’ve been given the opportunity to live blog from the event! Yep, blogging Barack! This is so great. So tomorrow check me out in the blog section at myfoxwghp.com or on digitalherstory.com.
I have a huge family –6 sisters and 2 brothers– and I love them all very much. But have you ever thought about how we’re expected to show love, devotion, and allegiance to these people with whom we were randomly thrown together?
Tonight I was going through one of my old email accounts and came across an email from a very special person (whom I’ll call Sky). Sky was one of the members of what we termed: The Body Ecology Family. I began working there in 2000, and worked off and on (during school breaks from DC) for 2 years. Wow, those were some great times. These were people I not only chose to work with, but also love and share my joys and pain with. I was closer to this family than I’ve ever been to some of the members of my blood family.
Sky is a graduate of, and also an employee of The New College in San Francisco. I really miss him. He is one of the sweetest and most sincere people I’ve ever met. After all these years, I still truly consider him to be a member of my family.
Today I was going through my purse and came across the many cards I collected from bloggers, photographers, techies, and just overall great people from ConvergeSouth.
First, I think Sue Polinsky needs to be applauded. Organizing ConvergeSouth I’m sure brought many headaches, long days, and lots of frustration. She seems to be fairly dedicated to strengthing Greensboro’s presence and support for the local conference.
Ed Cone (who was blogging throughout the conference) discusses ConvergeSouth’s future…and take a look at the number of comments received. Whoa!
I heard people raving about ConvergeSouth Music (”The Verge”). What can I say? Sean is a hard-working man, always creating.
Andy did a fantastic job with the first annual ConvergeSouth Film Festival. He put together an excellent set of films.
I chatted with Michael Dunn who took some amazing photos of Molly McGinn at The Verge. Continue reading ‘ConvergeSouth 2007: Spreading The Link Love’
