I love Blackalicious’ music! So I was pleasantly surprised when, while searching for YouTube alphabet videos for Baby 2.0, I came across Blackalicious’ Alphabet Aerobics. Now it doesn’t trump the Sesame Street video that she loves, but she seemed mesmerized by it…I think because the video is very busy. This video is more for me
. The guy rhyming is aptly named Gift of Gab, and his lyrical flow is CRAZY. Anyway, the video is below. And go here to hear one of their songs from the Blazing Arrow album.

Today my plan was to attend the Hip Hop Summit on the campus of NC A&T here in Greensboro . Got my ticket. I was looking fresh. My sisters, my niece, my nephew and I rolled up expecting to get some lessons on how to get our money right. And we were turned away. The place was filled to capacity. Darn! I was really looking forward to hearing Dr. Benjamin Chavis Muhammad. But guess what? It’s streaming live as I type. Go here to watch.
And something that’s cool–they’re using Justin.tv to stream the forum.
i’m about to lose my mind!!! well the feeling is starting to subside now. but my niece and nephew came to visit from Florida and they took over our computers. all we heard for the entire week and weekend was junk like “poppin my collar,” “i’m in luv wit a stripper,” “lean wit it,” and many more songs that they’re passing off as music. I feel like I have to write about the stuff that’s currently popular because it’s gotten out of hand. i mean it’s ridiculous! is this the stuff that they’ll consider classic in a few years? if so, that’s sad. ok, i’m through venting. i’ll have something different to talk about tomorrow. peace.
just picked up Blackalicious’ latest album, The Craft. they’re evidence that good hip-hop is still around, but you may have to flip off mtv, bet, and vh1 to find it. their recent album is a breath of fresh air in a world consumed with booty shaking and bling (but don’t get me wrong, they do have some bangers that will have you up boogying). they make me believe that there is still hope for hip-hop (of course along with Common, Mos Def, Outkast, Nas, The Fugees…).
