Black Weblog Awards: Blog to Watch

I’ve been blogging for 2 1/2 years and have never participated in any sort of weblog awards.  This year I have taken it upon myself to nominate a blog I think is a “Blog to Watch.”  I don’t know how other bloggers feel about nominated their own blog but I feel so strongly about my newest site Eco-Friendly Momma that I decided to nominate my own blog.  Is that wrong?  Anyway, they don’t have a green/ecofriendly category so I chose the “Blog to Watch” category.  If you like my new site and want to help a sista out, stop by the Black Weblog Awards and submit your nomination for ecofriendlymomma.com in the “Blog to Watch” category.  And spread the word. Thanks for your support!

In My Absence: Atlanta + EcoFriendly Momma + New Job

My excitement runneth over right now! OK, know I’ve been M.I.A for awhile. Before my last nonsense post, I hadn’t written in over a month. So where have I been you ask? Well let me tell you.

Back in June I took a mini vacay to HOTlanta…woot! We met up with a friend — she flew up from Miami, we drove down from N.C. — to celebrate her birthday. As she used to reside in Atlanta, she led the way and led us straight to the Apache Cafe for a night of poetry. Jon Goode made me LAUGH! Ursula Rucker made me THINK! An enjoyable night, an enjoyable vacation. But as I said before, it was a mini one so I’m due for another vacation real soon…D.C. in a couple of weeks (yay!) and Arkansas in Sept. (paternal fam). Check out an Ursula Rucker poem below:

My New Baby!

No, I ain’t got no more mouths to feed…talking about my latest blogging venture.  Eco-Friendly Momma has been in the back of my mind for sometime.  Then one night, a friend asked what I was waiting for.  That prompted me to go ahead and do it!  I’m writing about something I’m absolutely passionate about…which makes it that much easier.  Please stop by my new virtual home and say hello!

OK, this next news excites me the most!  I was just offered a position with an organization I know I will be so pleased to work with.  So much more I want to share about the position, but I’m gonna hold off until I leave my current job and am officially in the new one.  And best believe I’m gonna testify about all the good that’s flowing my way…stay tuned for that!

Sorry for the Delay

A few of my readers left comments recently and they sat in moderation for quite a few days.  So sorry about that.  I haven’t logged onto my site in a while.  I usually get an email notification when there’s a comment awaiting moderation, but I haven’t been receiving them.  Gotta check to see what the problem is.  Anyway, in the future I will be quicker about approving comments on my post.

Cheers!

Going Underground

Every now and then I must take a break.  This is one of those times.  My “real” life is getting kind of hectic.  Gotta focus on my darling and some other important things in my life.  Will be back shortly.  Stay tuned :)

And to Vegan Momma, I got the tag.  Will post soon.

Let’s Talk About ‘Good Hair’

People crack me up! I stopped at the gas station on my drive home from work last night. Got out of the car, and this man says, “Let me guess…6 years, right?

“Huh?”

“No…7 years?” he asks me.

So I’m looking at this man like he’s crazy. Because he can’t be asking if I’m 6 or 7 years old. Then he says he’s talking about my hair. How long have I’ve been growing my hair. Ok, so he’s not kooky. I tell him around 2 1/2 years. He’s shocked, and I tell him my hair grows fast…blah, blah, blah. Then the store clerk says, “Yeah, she got that good hair.” Aaaggghhh!!!!!!! Three things:

First, this phrase makes my ears BLEED!!!! I can’t stand to hear it (although, my sisters and I use it when we’re joking about how hung up on hair some people are).

Second, I’ve never felt that I had ‘good hair.’ That is, not the definition of good hair inherent in the clerk’s use of the word. My hair is thick, and kinky, and difficult to comb, and I used to dislike it very much.

Third, I do feel that I now have good hair, because it’s healthy. Good hair is healthy hair, according to my definition. I just want us to stop thinking of good hair as hair with a particular texture. Good hair can be tightly coiled, loosely curled, bone straight, kinky, etc. If it’s healthy, it’s GOOD!

What about you, how do you feel about ‘good hair?’   What has been your experience with the term?
