Jasiri’s Top 25 Video Countdown 22-20

I abandoned my Top 25 for a minute but now I’m back at it again bringing you my favorite videos of all time.  This is the third post in the series so go back and check out videos 23-25 as well as the honorable mentions.

The Pharcyde
Drop

This video is just plain cool and I’m still trying to figure out how it was put together (stay tuned for another countdown appearance from The Pharcyde).

Michael Jackson
The Way You Make Me Feel
The Way You Make Me Feel just may be my favorite Michael Jackson song, and it’s on my list of favorite Jacko videos. Mr. Jackson disabled embedding so I can only link to it :( Go here to check it out. Shamone!

DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince
Summertime

The #1 summer anthem. Get nostalgic every time I hear. A time when folks didn’t mind Will Smith’s bubblegum rapping. A hip-hop classic!

Lizz Wright’s ‘Hey Mann’: A Beautiful Sadness

Thursday morning, I dropped in to Starbucks for a soy chai and walked out with Lizz Wright’s latest album, The Orchard. I was delighted to find that she remade Sweet Honey in the Rock’s Hey Mann. Her voice complicates my soul. On the one hand the husky, sorrowful sound with a hint of longing…aching, is unbearable; but the sound is so beautiful, it begins to feel good to wallow in my sadness.  The lyrics are practically the story of my last relationship:

Hey mann,
Whatcha doing here?
I don’t remember letting you in.
Hey mann,
How’d you get in here?
You’re in my heart without consent.

I always took pride
in my self control,
To my heart only I had the key.
But something’s gone wrong
in my radar screen.
You slipped by
and you captured me.

I done all I could to keep my head clear,
Logic tells me that this should never be,
But there’s no mistaken the shape I’m in,
Love has filled my every waking day.

Now here’s the strangest thing,
A day has come I thought I’d never see,
I walk smiling in a light glow
and I’m calling out your name,
I’ve lost the battle,
and I’m quite well pleased

Jasiri’s Top 25 Video Countdown: 23-25

I had a different subject planned for this post, but I am feeling pretty miserable right now. I can’t gather the mental strength needed to write something that requires too much thinking. Don’t know if I have a sinus infection, the flu, or just a plain old cold. Whatever it is, I want it to be gone! This post is a continuation of a post I began back in the summer. It’s my Top 25 Video Countdown (you know…like BET’s, only better). The following are my picks for 23-25. Enjoy!

25. Jurassic 5 feat. Dave Matthews
Work It Out

Two great artists coming together to bring us some political humor.

24. Beck
Where It’s At

Another humorous one. I remember when this video came out, I’m guessing I was around 15 or 16 — used to love it. BTW, Universal Music Group disabled embedding for this video. To view it just click on the video and you’ll be taken to the video on YouTube’s site go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uQ9W4KexnA.

23. Incubus
Drive

Love the concept and the artwork in this video. And, to indulge briefly in my superficial side, the lead singer is Hot! (Video embedding was disabled, go here to watch)

NaBloPoMo: Day Three And I’ve Almost Failed!

I’m really cutting it close with this post. Nablopomo rules: post everyday for the month of November. It’s currently 11:09 pm, and I’m just sitting down to write my post. I’ve already come so close to failing this challenge, and it’s only the third day!!!!! And it’s not as if I’ve been terribly busy. It’s my sister’s turn with the kids so I’ve been a free woman today. After a hectic week that concluded with a much anticipated, but highly nerve-wracking, job interview (I’ll talk more about this in a future post), I was just mentally and physically exhausted. So today’s freedom was spent mostly sleeping off-and-on throughout the day…with a little eating, internet surfing, and a quick trip to the store mixed in. So here I am typing with not much to say, therefore I will stop babbling now. I do want to leave you with a couple of videos I found and posted to a Facebook group started by my blogging friend, Szvanna. The group is Szvanna’s Song Club, and I highly recommend joining if you’re on Facebook (and you enjoy discovering new, GOOD music). I’ve already been introduced to some great musicians and some wonderful music. The following two videos were submissions to the club by yours truly. The first features the queen herself, Nina Simone, performing a splendid version of Ain’t Got No…I’ve Got Life. The second video is Zap Mama, and well…that one you must see for yourself. Enjoy!

BTW, the time is now 11:46. Aaaggghhh!!!!!!

Retro Video: Peace From Pain

Video thumbnail. Click to play
Click To Play

I’m currently working on an editing project (video) for a close friend. So tonight I was searching for some files on my external hard drive and came across the video of Baby 2.0’s birth. Don’t be alarmed the video I posted is not, I repeat, NOT a childbirth video. My younger sister caught Baby on tape burping after her first feeding. When I played the video tonight, the memories of the birth and that first day of her existence, all came flooding back to me. The thought of the pain was first. Then I began remember the smells, the soothing sound of my midwife’s voice, how Baby’s juicy lips were the first thing I noticed when I laid eyes on her. How I just felt at peace after 9 stressful months and several hours of painful labor. There’s nothing that I’ve ever done in my 27 years of living that compares to those peaceful moments immediately after my daughter’s birth. I would do it all over again. Um, well…let me think about that one :P .

Blackalicious + ABC’s = Alphabet Aerobics

I love Blackalicious’ music! So I was pleasantly surprised when, while searching for YouTube alphabet videos for Baby 2.0, I came across Blackalicious’ Alphabet Aerobics. Now it doesn’t trump the Sesame Street video that she loves, but she seemed mesmerized by it…I think because the video is very busy. This video is more for me :P . The guy rhyming is aptly named Gift of Gab, and his lyrical flow is CRAZY. Anyway, the video is below. And go here to hear one of their songs from the Blazing Arrow album.
